What is a grand entrance?
After all wedding guests move to the reception area after the ceremony has ended, the grand entrance begins when the wedding party and newly married wedding couple are introduced for the first time as they enter the reception venue. In addition to their names, the emcee should also state their relationship with the couple and their role in the wedding.
Wedding entrance songs are not to be confused with processional songs. Processional songs (and you know we have a list of the best of those) are during the wedding ceremony. Entrance songs are played while the wedding party is announced at the wedding reception.
What is a good entrance song?
A good entrance song is one that gets your wedding guests out of their chairs, standing, and cheering the wedding party on as they are introduced. The song also has a climax as the brand new married couple is introduced into the wedding reception hall.
If you are looking for a song to play as the bride enters the wedding ceremony area, check out our list of bride entrance songs.
If you have a special wedding grand march song that works or worked for you, send us an email through the comments at the bottom of the page.
How long is the grand entrance?
The grand entrance can be as short as 2 minutes if only the newlyweds are introduced. It can be as long as 10 minutes to introduce a large wedding party such as 10 groomsmen and 10 bridesmaids. Plan 5-10 minutes.
How do you pick a wedding entrance song?
First, you must decide if you want a hyped entrance or a romantic entrance just for you. If you want a song to play as you enter with cheers, then select an upbeat song in your favorite style of music. If you have a more classy affair, then select a romantic love song to set the mood of romance for the meal.
Do grooms have an entrance song?
Typically, the wedding couple enters the reception hall and is announced together instead of individually. However, at the wedding ceremony, the groom typically walks down the aisle while escorting his mother to her seat. He can also choose to walk down the aisle alone and have his own groom processional song too.
How do you make a grand entrance?
First and foremost, the DJ or band must get all wedding guests hyped for the grand entrance through music and emcee announcements. Then, the wedding party must enter the reception hall with excitement, happiness, and confidence.
A popular grand entrance game is to have a dance-off between the wedding party members. Then, have guests select the best entrance and present them with a prize.
How do you announce the bride and groom grand entrance?
It is up to the master of ceremonies to discuss with the wedding couple beforehand how they wish to be introduced. In addition, some weddings are same-sex weddings. Typically, a bride and groom are introduced as “It is my great honor and happy privilege to introduce to you, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver and Olivia Smith!”. For gender-neutral entrances, the introduction could be “Let’s raise our glasses and welcome the newly united couple, Liam and Noah!”
What is a pre processional song?
A processional song is a song that is played as the wedding party walks down the aisle. This could include the groom, bridesmaids, and groomsmen, and the bride with her father or selected person to give her away. The wedding ceremony starts with prelude songs and then transitions to pre-processional songs for honored family members walking down the aisle such as grandparents and parents.
Does the Entrance Song Have to Be Boring?
No way. The “boring” part is usually the ceremony where you compromise because of your parents. Though you could play the Wedding March,” it isn’t necessary at all. This is your party. You can make it as upbeat or as traditional as you like. If you “want to get the party started” then play “Get Ready For This” by 2 Unlimited.
Songs can rock the house, raise the roof, and add a bit of fun to classy events. From our experience planning weddings, we believe the best entrance song for the wedding party has a good beat and lyrics to match. Stay away from songs that distract from the love message or talk about cheating. It seems like an obvious one, but you’d not believe our stories.
How do you announce the wedding party entrance?
As the wedding party re-emerges, you can have your professional DJ announce special pairs, the groomsmen, bridesmaids, and/or the wedding couple. Often the parents and grandparents are announced as a special pair. Then pairs of groomsmen and bridesmaids. After that, the best man and maid of honor are announced, followed by the wedding couple.

Keep in mind that generally, the wedding party is absent for a while after the ceremony. They’re all with the photographer while the guests are at the reception, eating hors ‘devours.
How many entrance songs do I need for the wedding party?
The short answer is as many as you like. But, generally, one song is long enough for up to 9 introductions. That would be the parents, grandparents, one to five sets of the wedding party, the best man and maid of honor, and the wedding couple.
Keep in mind that the average song is 3 minutes in duration. It can take 20 seconds for a couple to prepare and get from the venue entrance door to their seats or to the dance floor. As you increase the number of introductions so will the number of songs you will need. A 3-minute song at 20 seconds per introduction equals 9 introductions on a single song.
You can always create a medley, but that can be confusing for the guests. If you have chosen to skip dinner or allow guests to eat while photographs are taken, the entrance can be immediately followed by the couple’s first dance.

Wedding Songs For The Ultimate Party!
One song I am thinking of as a possibility for our entrance is the Main Title from ‘An Officer & A Gentleman’. It’s basically an instrumental version of the song ‘Up Where We Belong’ from the same movie. Problem is, it’s only about 1:40 long. Any way you see this working?
Hello. Thanks for the suggestion. Just for those romantic movie buffs and early 80s music fans, there is a great instrumental cover by Richard Clayderman that would work great into the wedding ceremony!
Hi, my daughter wants to know what song I want played when I walk into her wedding reception. I’m divorced, and am trying to think of a kick ass song that represents the strong, independent woman I am. Any suggestions? I have pretty eclectic taste, except for rap.
Hi Tina. Thanks for the question. We have some awesome entrance songs here. However, you may first want to ask your daughter if there is a special song she likes first. Then, you may want to check out our Mother Daughter Songs too.
for my daughters upcoming wedding, instead of the traditional wedding march, she and I love,”Over the Rainbow”;but not Judy Garland’s version. Our pick was done by a native Hawaiian who’s name is too long to remember, but his version is beautiful
Hi Deedee, The artist is Israel Kamakawiwo’Ole. Here is a link to the video – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fahr069-fzE
I would like a few moments of the traditional wedding march then mix with Uptown funk…any ideas?
I like the idea. Just have your DJ mix in the two songs.
I am planning to walk down the aisle in just a few months, this fall. My entrance song(hopefully) will be “Let’s Get Married” by Jagged Edge. There are two versions, but I like the original better than the remix. Just another idea for anybody who may see this. :-)
Thanks for sharing Angela.
